October 10, 2009 - O'Reilly Raceway Park

This weekend was the Jeg's Series finale and shootout. The shootout is a special race for the top 8 people in points qualifying (we receive 32 points for qualifying 1st, 31 for 2nd, etc.). We also entered Super Pro so that we could get an extra time trial before the 1st round of the shootout. Our transmission problems reappeared again this weekend, so even though we were spraying the nitrous at 200hp for 2 seconds, the car ran uncharacteristically slow and we were inconsistent. Below is our Jeg's qualifying pass and our first Super Pro time trial.

Today was the Jeg's race at Chandler. Many of our family members (Uncle Von & Aunt Sandy, Dawn, Mike, Alexys, Nikki & Jake and Sarah, Jaime & Addison) came to visit, along with our friend Allen! We sprayed 200hp of nitrous all day. For the first qualifying pass we sprayed 0.1 to 2.1s, but the rest of the day we sprayed 0.3 to 2.3s.

Mom, Dad, Jake and I went to Chandler today to race in Super Pro. We didn't use the nitrous during any of these passes. I lifted early on the second test pass because the car got out of the groove and I didn't want to have to bring it back on a hot, slippery track.

Saturday morning we discovered an inch long cut in the left rear tire, which rendered the rear tires useless. We borrowed a set of tires from the Carricos for the day and bought a new set at the end of the day. Huge thanks to the Carrico family for letting us borrow their tires and David Daily for loaning us the money to buy a new set. We were visited today by Jake and my cousin Sarah, her fiance Jamie, and their family!

July 25, 2009 - Chandler Motorsports Park

Our first time at Chandler! And boy we were excited to race at home. We put a pneumatic shifter on the car for this weekend and the car shifted without error. Good call dad. We didn't spray for the first time trial because we wanted to make sure the car was going to shift properly before we sprayed. For the second time trial we sprayed 300hp for 4 seconds in an effort to see what was the maximum amount we could pick up. This will be helpful information when we go to Lyons on Aug. 8 for the unlimited elapsed time Quick 32.

Below are our time slips from eliminations. The '384K' column is us and the other column is our opponent. We qualified #1 for the Quick 8! First round we ran our quickest elapsed time ever. Second round the 3-step or the ignition box malfunctioned and the car left on the converter (6000rpm). Launching at this high of engine speed caused the car to pull the front tires straight up out of the beams, causing us to red light and run 5-10 hundreds slower than we should have (the 60' and 330' are off too). We've had this happen in the past so we're sure that's what happened during this pass.

July 5, 2009 - Lyons Raceway Park

Mom, dad, Jake and I went to Lyons to run the VP Fuels Quick 32. Since this quick 32 has no elapsed time limit, we knew we'd have to spray more than 200hp worth of nitrous to qualify. We got a free pass with Super Pro during their first time trial to make sure the newly re-built transmission was fully operational. We didn't spray at all for that pass. The transmission was shifting well again, but there was still a problem with the solenoid or shifter cable, so I had to shift the car manually the whole day.

During the first qualifying pass some friends of ours said they heard the engine missing. For the second qualifying pass we had some other people listen too and they reported the same thing. We finally found the problem; one of the boots on the distributor had split from rubbing on the intake. We replaced it and all was well. We sprayed 250hp for 4.2 seconds during the 1st qualifying pass, and 300hp for 4.2 seconds during the 2nd qualifying pass but had an engine miss for both of them.

Since we had an engine miss during qualifying neither pass was representative of what the car was going to run. So, we put the 250hp nitrous jets back in, set to spray for 4.2 seconds and took a wild guess at the dial-in for first round. I have no idea what caused my light to be so bad second round. I felt like I had hit the light really well, but apparently I didn't.

June 27, 2009 - Muncie Dragway

This was the 5th (our 4th) Jeg's Super Quick Series race of the year. During qualifying I noticed the transmission slipping when it shifted into high gear. Also, the electric solenoid on the shifter didn't shift the car into high gear during the first qualifying pass. Since we had traveled this far we decided to go ahead and race with me manually shifting the car. After the race we drained the transmission fluid and it was full of brass; off to the repair shop it goes. During first round the solenoid worked and the car shifted on its own, so we thought we had fixed the problem. However, 2nd round the car didn't shift on its own and I waited too long to 'help' it shift. The late shift into high gear caused the car to run much slower than it should have and we subsequently lost.

The Jeg's US Open is one of, if not the, biggest bracket race in the Midwest. We didn't use the nitrous at all this weekend. All-in-all, the entire weekend was unsuccessful but eye-opening. The level of competition at this race was significantly higher than any other race we've been to and we were not up to the challenge. We had lots of visitors this weekend; Uncle Guido, Uncle Greg, Cousin Sabra and Amy Miller. Big thanks to all of them for making the weekend so much fun! Thursday's race was $10,000 to win and we got 1 time trial.

Saturday was the actual race and we were very fortunate to win Super Pro! It was a fantastic win because of all the support from our friends and fellow Ford racers. Thanks to everyone for making this weekend so much fun! During this race my eyes had become very light sensitive, and I was having a hard time keeping my eyes open without them watering so much that I couldn't see. A couple of days after this race I found out that I had eye ulcers in both eyes.

May 22, 2009 - Beech Bend Raceway Park

This weekend was the Sports National Open at Beech Bend. Friday was a test day for us; we made 4 passes, 2 of which were quarter mile passes. We used these 2 passes and the quarter mile pass from last weekend to apply for my Top Dragster license, which I successfully obtained. We used the nitrous for all of these passes. We sprayed the nitrous for 2 seconds for time trials #1 and #2, 2.5 seconds for time trial #3 and 3 seconds for time trial #4. On the 3rd time trial the tower forgot to switch the tree from pro tree back to sportsman tree, so my light is ridiculously late.

Saturday was the Jeg's Super Quick race. We also entered Super Pro whose eliminations were to be run on Sunday. We made 2 qualifying runs for the Jeg's race and 1 Super Pro time trial before heading into eliminations of the Jeg's race. For our first qualifying pass we sprayed the nitrous for 3 seconds instead of our usual 2 seconds. According to Friday's passes this would put us in the low 4.50s, which we would need to run in order to stay in the top-half of the field as this race typically has the quickest field of all the Jeg's events. We underestimated the car's performance and our first qualifying pass put us in the top qualifier spot, which we held until the last pair of cars when a friend pushed us back to #2. For the 2nd qualifying pass and eliminations we only sprayed for 2.5 seconds.

We were supposed to run the eliminations of Super Pro on Sunday, but it was rained out. The race has been rescheduled for June 14th.

May 17, 2009 - Beech Bend Raceway Park

Mom, Dad, Kevin Schweizer and I headed to Bowling Green to test for next weekend's Jeg's race. When Charlie gave us the okay, we made a quarter mile test pass just to see what the car would run. It ran well considering we didn't make any changes from the 1/8th mile setup. *We suspect that the mph clocks in the right lane were 3mph off as this, and the mph from all our other passes in the right lane, is higher than our usual mph.
