May 8 2009 - Midstate Dragway

I drove down from Michigan to meet Mom, Dad and Uncle Guito in Havana. Friday night was test and tune and we made 3 passes. Since it was the first race of the year for us, we thought we were fighting some gremlins in the car and engine, and therefore running uncharacteristically slow. Since there were no unusual sounds or vibrations in the car, we didn't pull the valve cover off until after the 3rd pass. When we did finally pull it off, we found a broken lifter and rocker arm. Luckily we had spare parts in the trailer and were able to fix it before Saturday's race.

Saturday was a very busy day as we entered both the Jeg's Super Quick race and Super Pro. We got 2 qualifying runs for the Jeg's race and 2 time trials for Super Pro and sprayed the nitrous for 2 seconds during each of the qualifying passes. We entered Super Pro simply for the extra time trials since we didn't make any good passes on Friday night. We planned on running Super Pro eliminations if we lost first round of the Jeg's race, and not entering Super Pro eliminations if we won first round of the Jeg's race. This would allow us to concentrate on the Jeg's race, but make extra passes if we lost early.

You'll notice some unrealistic numbers in time trial #2 and qualifying pass #2. The track was having some problems with the timing system in the left lane.

Below are our time slips from eliminations. The '384K' column is us and the other column is our opponent. We lost first round of the Jeg's race, so we entered Super Pro eliminations. However, while we were in line for the first round of Super Pro, we were informed that the first round of the Jeg's race was going to be entirely re-run because of the timing system issues in the left lane. We then used our first round of Super Pro as another time trial, lost and then concentrated on the Jeg's race. We sprayed the nitrous for 2 seconds during all of these runs.
